As dusk falls over the Serengeti, the savanna takes on an entirely new personality. Departing from your lodge or camp after dinner, the night game drive is conducted in an open vehicle equipped with powerful spotlights. Your guide and ranger help you search for elusive nocturnal creatures such as civets, genets, aardvarks, porcupines, owls, and chameleons. Lions and leopards are often more active after dark, and it’s not uncommon to witness a stealthy hunt or hear the sounds of hyenas calling in the distance. The drive usually lasts 2–3 hours and offers a rare opportunity to experience the mystery and drama of the bush at night.
